Piedmont top 10 loves

As always we are happy to share posts by our online friends and today we are sharing Lamie Yang's. She was born in 1996 in Taipei, Taiwan where she graduated in Mass Communication.
One night she had an epiphany that revealed to her how much she loves food and cooking; this is how she got here in Piedmont, where she is currently a student in the University of Gastronomic Sciences Master program in Pollenzo.

She flew 10,000 kilometers to Piedmont: the best place for food and wine. Her Master in Gastronomy focuses on World Food Cultures and Mobility.
Lamie also loves photography, traveling and sharing stories with people. She is addicted to food, people, and everything happening in Italy. After her graduation, she would like to work in the food and beverage export business in Italy.

Piemonte flavored gelato in the UK

If you love gelato as much as we do, you will love this post by Laura Hadland about Gelato Village, in Leicester, UK. This is the gelateria founded by our Twitter and Instagram friends Antonio and Daniele, both from Turin 🙌

Gelato Village: Bringing a flavour of Piemonte to the UK

When Gelato Village first opened its doors in August 2014, its Italian owners, Antonio De Vecchi and Daniele Taverna, had no idea if the people of Leicester, England would have an appetite for authentic Italian gelato. The two natives of Turin had come to the UK over 10 years earlier, working in the medical and IT industries. It was their love of high quality food, inspired by their Piemontese upbringing which encouraged them to throw in the towel on their old careers and turn their passion into a business.

Turin discovered

Our friend Jan Egan aka The Watchful Cook is sharing with us her love for Turin.

After an international corporate life during which she was well paid, well travelled and well fed, she now has the luxury of combining her twin passions of Italy and food. Keen supporter of Slow Food and love to source and cook with authentic ingredients in her kitchens in London and Milan. She fell in love with Turin about four years ago and now she tries to be here as often as she can. She can’t be doing with fake or speedy anything and likely to rant about the industrialisation of food at the drop of hat. When not in the kitchen, she is likely to be found with her nose in a book, wandering around looking at art and architecture or listening to opera (the earlier the better). She is blessed with a wonderful Italian partner, Edoardo, whose role in the kitchen is to keep her glass filled.

Follow Jan on The Watchful Cook where you will find many enticing recipes and posts elegantly written in her down-to-earth and witty style!

Amanda's cheese spots

Today we are sharing a new guest post by our friend Amanda, a new resident in the Piedmont wine country!

Amanda Courtney born outside of the Boston area, after high school she went to study metal-smithing and jewelry design at the Maine College of Art in Portland ME. Which then brought her to Los Angeles and from there she was tantalized by the super passionate and exciting food and wine scene that LA had to offer.  It was then that she found her passion and where she got her wine degree at the Wine and Spirit Educational Trust. Working with wine, talking and educating people about the different regions, varieties, and philosophies of the winemakers, she had found her true talent. She now lives and works in one of the most important wine areas in Italy, Piemonte. Having recently started up her own Wine Adventures company she is now able to show people around this area to educate them about the food, wine, and culture of this wonderful place.

Darryl's perspective on wines

This week guest post is by Darryl Baldwin who was a guest at Turin Epicurean Capital 2014.

After working in the City of London for 40 years trading, selling and marketing the whole gamut of financial instruments for various international banks, he and his wife stumbled across a piece of Paradise. It was February 2007 and he had decided the time was right for a bit of permanent R&R. Within a few months they had bought a house in Neive and properly discovered Nebbiolo. They built a grandchildren attractor (swimming pool) and within 2 years, when it was a proven success, decided to sell the house in the UK, help the kids and settle permanently in Italy. They have never looked back and are in love with the wine, the food, the culture and the family-centric approach to life. Slowly but surely they  are educating their English friends that they live in Piemonte where the best wines in Italy (if not the world) are made and not in Tuscany which is the only region they appear to know. You can follow Darryl on his blog Piemonte mio

Lake Orta is Paradise

Enjoy our friend Jim Dunlop's guest post about Lake Orta, one of the one day destinations from Turin!

Originally studied Chemical Engineering and Sales and Marketing, Jim worked for some large multinational companies including in Casale Monferrato  and Bergamo. He ran his own consultancy and sales business before retiring a few years ago. Married to Julia hence the title of this post which is our retirement project!
As yet he has not started a blog but he will do once he has enough stories to put in it.

Travels with Julia (a few Days in Paradise)

As the first rays of sunshine burst over the hills behind Sacro Monte di Orta, bringing a summer vibrancy to our balcony I put down my pen and let the warmth sweep over me in the cool stillness of the morning. Not a sound was heard save the solitary cooing of a pigeon on the roof above. Isola di San Giulio lay at peace with itself and from this distance the morning traffic on the opposite shore could not be heard. Nothing was stirring in Pella. High above on a precarious ledge Madonna del Sasso sat watching another day arrive.

Faustina's Langhe fresco

This week, our friend Faustina Gilbey will share her Piedmontese side and what this region has stamped on her heart!

I’m English but for the past 8 years have been living in Italy, the first 2 years in the Alta Langhe, Piemonte and now for the last 6 years in Albino near Bergamo.

Before moving to Italy I lived in London, South Africa and Canada, cooking, travelling and researching food. I wrote a cookbook and also wrote for about 6 years for a daily Canadian CBC Television cooking show. In London I worked mainly in the media and event organising (including the British Museum, Barbican and BAFTA) as well as in independent Film & TV production.

I moved here to be with my partner Fiorenzo, and we have a Feldenkrais, Floating and Food Therapy Centre: www.spaziof.org. I continue my love of food and research by exploring all the wonderful places and products in Italy – mainly Northern Italy; I’m a member of Slow Food Italia; I do seminars on healthy cooking and juicing and have a food/health blog Eating Clouds in Italy.

Piedmont's brilliance

This week we are hosting our friend Sebastian Sassi's guest post and what he loves about Piedmont.

Sebastian Sassi and his hot wife Brooke - just love her hair!!
Sebastian Sassi is part of the husband and wife team that operate Sassi Italy Tours out of Colorado Springs, CO; they work with his art historian father, Doug Sassi, to navigate discerning travelers to Italy's typically-undiscovered-by-tourists treasures, artisanal food and wine producers, and off the beaten path adventures.
His life-long fascination with Italian culture drives him to want to share what he's learned from his father and from his experiences in Italy with those who share the traveler's spirit.
