il sole tra la nebbia

a royal tour of Turin

To close this 8th edition of Turin Epicurean Capital we did want to give you a taste of our royal legacy and how we live it nonchalantly on a daily basis.

We are indeed surrounded by art and history, and yet we can't help marveling at what we have!

Follow Lucia in her sample tour starting in Piazza Castello where we have 2 royal palaces: the one for the King or Palazzo Reale and the one for the Queen or Palazzo Madama. Don't underestimate the collections of this last one as you are allowed to the stacks too!

Look at more pictures and get a sense of what our second edition looked like back in 2015 when we visited Palazzo Madama here.
Our friend and Turinepi19 guest Dr Reine Dugas and her son Jake were soo impressed: read her post here πŸ˜

Rosa Serafino since 1875

When you make it to Turin you'll soon realize that it is indeed a bottomless treasure chest full of hidden gems! In this 8th edition of Turin Epicurean Capital we just wanted to give you a glimpse over a tiny part of our precious places and we did want to include one of the oldest herbal shops in town, the only one founded by a woman back in the 19th century.

Rosa Serafino founded her herbal shop or l'erboristeria della Consolata in Piazza della Consolata 5 in front of the famous Basilica, back in 1875 and her shop is still in the same location and preserves its original wood furniture.

A real stargate to a world and a time already gone, where there is no need of a/c in the summer thanks to the special microclimate this old building provides. Giulia, a graduate in herbal sciences accepted to tell us about their products and history.

Miretti's coffee roastery

Turin has always had an old and rooted coffee culture tradition and right in Turin are based many industrial coffee brands, like Lavazza and Vergnano.

From this hot drink comes our local coffee house love and the passion for artisan coffee so for this 8th editon of Turin Epicurean Capital we are sharing with you 'the other side' of Bar Gelateria Miretti, in Corso Matteotti 5, here in Turin.

Miretti's gelato

If you have been following us for a while you all already know about Lucia's love for gelato, so it doesn't come as a surprise that artisan gelato is always part of Turin Epicurean Capital πŸ˜
For this 8th edition we went back to Bar Gelateria Miretti in Corso Matteotti 5, here in Turin!

This is a real gelato heaven 🌈 and both our guests and us never tire of trying their new flavors as well as their classics.
Mr Leonardo La Porta is an award winning Master Gelato Maker πŸ¦and the master mind of this very famous gelato shop in Turin 😎

turinepi21 w Myanmar / Burma

This 8th edition of Turin Epicurean Capital is dedicated to and in support of the people of Myanmar who underwent the coup and who are still fighting for their democracy everyday 😰

With them in mind, all the turinepi21 vids show Lucia wearing the work of a talented Burmese tailor🧡 - sarta in italiano - based in Yangon.

Follow our friends ➡️ New Education Highway on their IG to know what happens in Burma as it is quite hard to get their news in other countries. Read about and get to know some of the activists and may peace πŸ•Š democracy, economical stability AND health be re-established soon πŸ™

Turinepi 21

Unbelievably it is already May and travel wise, this summer 2021 doesn't look much different from 2020 despite the fact that all vaccinated travelers will be welcomed to Europe. So far though, there aren't many flights scheduled yet and we don't have specific details yet either about how we will be able travel around. Travel inside Italy will be allowed starting on May 15th but it will take another month to travel inside the EU...
At this stage we already know that many of our guests won't be able to make it over to Turin in June either, so we have an alternative 8th edition in store: different from our usual ones and also from the 7th one on IG.

the 2021 optimism

The new year started with the vaccination campaign for covid19 in Italy too, and as Befana came and took took away our Christmas decorations, in Turin we are keeping our Winter Lights on exceptionally till well after Mardi Gras. One of the Turin city council members explained that given the current circumstances, 'we all need to be cheered up'.
