A Turin reverie

As of today many schools in Turin have resumed their classes before the official date of September 14th. Many Italians are back from their August vacations mostly in Italy and very few in other European countries. The temperatures have slowly been dropping but last Saturday we were still in the full of the summer with our 30C/86F and the sweat dripping down our backs as we were walking downtown.

Ferragosto 2020

Since the Roman times when it all started, every year August 15th is Ferragosto or the epitome of the Italian summer vacations.

By extension all August is vacation time in Italy, so whatever you might need, take it for granted: you won't get it between July 15th and September 15th. 

This August 2020 with covid19 is no exception to the rule even though 30% of the people living in Turin will stay in town and briefly venture up in the mountains for a short fresh week-end (where all rentals are sold out!), down to the sea, most likely in nearby Liguria (defying overcrowded trains), or at the lakes - and indeed in Piedmont, we do have many nice small lakes.

The fourth week of this virtual Turin Epicurean Capital 7th edition marked the end of the live chats with our guests. In the following days we'll be doing some Turin lives to bring you all over here from your armchair helping you to visualize yourselves in Torino living our vidaroyal 😜

The third week of the virtual 7th edition of Turin Epicurean Capital had three super interesting video chats spanning from California to Brazil and Piedmont, whose food topics spanned from food politics to food access via spermaculture!

Turin Epicurean Capital normally lasts 3 days in Turin but covid19 kept most of our guests at home and so we met them virtually online and these are our week 2 chats.

• As our guests loved the turinepi19 cheese tasting at Latteria Bera, we had planned another one this year too. Given the situation, we decided to do a virtual one where Chiara presented 7 cheeses, mostly produced in Piedmont, the vegan gianduiotti and cremini chocolates you can buy in her historic dairy and naturally, her famous whipped cream 😋
